How to Fix Dry Mascara: The Background

Mascara, the one cosmetic in your collection is as important as the little black dress hanging up in your closet. It is you must have. Your go to when you forgo all your other routines. Mascara is one of the essentials that fits in your pocket, makeup bag, glove compartment of your car, or your overnight bag. Your favorite mascara is the one you have been wearing your whole life, since you started wearing makeup suggested to you by your favorite beauty guru online. Since before the days of Cleopatra and beyond, mascara has been that helper in a tube that has been there. Believe it or not, people have been trying to figure out how to fix their dry mascara since its inception!

Mascara has been a staple of our beauty routine. We never leave home without it!  There is nothing more frustrating than misplacing your favorite tube and finding it dried out and unusable.

Did you know?: According to history, mascara has been used by both men and women to plump their lashes, cover up gray hair and other uses such as brow gel and eyeliner.

How to Fix Dry Mascara: The Situation

So, you just got asked out on a date from your crush you had seen at the coffee shop.  You didn’t put any effort into getting out of bed this morning and you barely have time to make it to the drugstore. After your day, you have no time to fuss.  You rush home and take a quick shower.  You find that perfect little black dress and then you are almost good to go. You grab all your essential makeup items. Foundation, eye shadow, lipstick, highlighter, last but not least, don’t forget your eye lashes. You open up the tube, uh oh…. it’s dried up. Now what are you going to do?

How to Fix Dry Mascara: The Solution, literally

TO GET STARTED:  You will need a bottle of contact lens solution. If you don’t have that, I wouldn’t suggest anything else. This is a sterile solution meaning that there are no contaminants and is eye safe.

1. First wash your hands and be at a clean surface when handing these products.

2. Open the tube of mascara and remove the wand.

3. Open the bottle of contact lens solution and carefully place 2 drops inside the tube.

PATRICIA TIP: Most people pump their mascara wand in the tube that leads to drying as well. You want to smoothly remove the wand from the tube and replace as soon as you apply to the eye. Be mindful if you force air in, it will dry.

4. Return the mascara to the tube after you add the drops.

5. Wait at least 2 minutes.

6. After waiting 2 minutes, your mascara is ready for use.

Now you have your mascara ready to use. Don’t forget to spray your favorite perfume before you walk out the door. 🙂

PATRICIA TIP:  If your mascara is too thick, contact lens solution is a great way to add a little more moisture to the cosmetic.
